The 2014 Honda CR-V vs. the 2014 Hyundai Tucson
As far as we’re concerned, the 2014 Honda CR-V is the reigning king of the crossover SUV class. Upon its initial release, it helped to define the small SUV segment, and it continues to redefine it year after year thanks to stellar performance, modern design, and a commendable attention to safety. Its comfortable, spacious cabin and great list of standard features alone have helped to push it to the front of its class.
Though the 2014 Hyundai Tucson may look like a similarly sized alternative, it just can’t compete with the cargo space found in the CR-V. The base-model Tucson also falls behind in terms of engine power, while not even making up for this deficiency by offering a stronger fuel economy.
Pack Up and Go
The CR-V was designed to be an adventure vehicle, and with room and power to spare, it was easily adopted by active weekend warriors across the board. With a base cargo capacity of 37.2 cubic feet (and a maximum of 70.9 when the seats are folded down), you’ve got more than enough room for your gear, whether its a camping trip, moving day, or just a quick run to the grocery store. The Tucson on the other hand has a base cargo capacity of 25.7 cubic feet, and a max of 55.8.
As for engine power, all 2014 CR-V models come with a 185-hp 2.4L engine. 2WD models have an EPA-estimated 31 mpg highway, while AWD models stay close with 30 mpg highway. With a 182-hp 2.4L engine, the 2WD Tucson models only get an estimated 28 mpg on the highway, which drops to 25 mpg highway with AWD.*
